What is the Kansas Migrant & ELL Academy?

The mission of the Kansas Migrant and English Language Learner Academy is to provide research-based professional development for educators who would benefit from additional training to ensure success for Kansas’s diverse K-12 migrant and English language learning population.  The Academy is divided into three cohorts of educators: middle school, high school, and elementary school.  It began with middle school educators and administrators who attended Pre- and Post-institutes in 2009, and high school educators and administrators who attended Pre-institutes in 2010 with follow-up sessions planned for the fall.  It will continue with Pre-institutes for elementary educators and administrators in the summer of 2011 with follow-up sessions.

Both the Pre- and Post-institutes are face to face.  The Pre-institutes consist of a two-day training workshop.  The Post-institute is a one-day workshop.  Pre- and Post-institutes are presented in both the eastern and western regions of the state each year.  An online Academy is available at this website.
